I've called into this place three times now for a meal on the way back from a business meeting in the area and each time it continues to impress. This pub apparently has a great reputation in the local area for serving fantastic pub food. It is located by the railway station (hence me calling in on the way home) at the top end of Wendover village and has a history that goes back to 1620. Hence the place is styled with old oak beams, low ceilings, open fireplaces and plenty of little ‘cubby holes’ where a couple can go and bury themselves away for a quiet drink or two. It’s a Chef & Brewer pub so that normally means great food with quality wines and real ales and here is no exception. Portions are large and the food is truly great. The place is also ideal for a family, especially in the summer because they have a large garden and children’s play area at the rear.
This would be a winner, but I can't for the life of me work out why they have to blast the air conditioning out. It even makes the food go cold. So even on a hot day we were shivering without a jumper. Food was pretty good, this is a Chef and Brewer chain. I had a good Thai Prawn Curry and him indoors had Pork in Apple Sauce with good veg. But we're not going back, it is just too cold. And we had the disadvantage of having Chucky the Toddler at the next table, not sure who was more evil him or his stupid parents who couldn't/wouldn't discipline him (he tried to stab his mother in the eye with a fork. Nice.) So we cycled off to The Duck Inn, Aston Clinton, which we liked much better.
